Membrane chambers implement sMBR technology (submerged membrane bioreactor), in which the biological process is combined with membrane separation inside a single reactor. The membranes retain suspended solids and colloidal particles, so the effluent is of high quality and disinfected without any chemicals.
Within a single reactor, suspended solids, organic carbon, and nutrients are removed simultaneously, with independent control of HRT and MCRT parameters. High biomass concentration accelerates biodegradation, while the compact footprint allows existing wastewater treatment plants to increase capacity without building additional tanks.
Marex has developed an automatic membrane cleaning system (CIP). The process has a significant effect on the service life and the efficiency of the membranes.
